SLIDESHOW!

SATURDAY

Lunch: Half Moon Bay Brewing Company (http://www.hmbbrewingco.com/)

The Scene: A surfer’s haven that’s conveniently adjacent to Mavericks break, famous for some of the world’s toughest big-wave surfing. Handcrafted Mavericks Amber Ale and Mavericks Budgetary Alement are piped directly to the bar from the Half Moon Bay Brewery next door. Grab a patio seat near the blazing fire pits in time to watch the sun set. Weekends are for live rock ‘n’ roll and blues while “Brews & Views,” a heated political discussion, takes place monthly.

Music: Mike Verta’s “The Race” Scoring Session
avatar

Wow!!!

From Mike Verta:

"It's official: On July 18th I will be recording (and videotaping) my symphonic piece "The Race" with a 90-piece group of all-star orchestral musicians on the legendary Newman Scoring Stage at Fox Studios, Los Angeles. 6 1/2 minutes, 34 pages, 237 bars, 14,934 notes; but it's ready to go."

Here is a little taste of that absolutely incredible Scoring Session:

(This was during the initial warm-up, they were adjusting the sound in the control booth itself-- that is not your computer cutting out on you!!)

Here is the full length synthetic mock-up of "The Race" from Mike's website (http://www.mikeverta.com/):

Enjoy the pictures I took between sessions.

Study: Google Searches May Affect Memory

Google Searches May Affect Memory: Study

By Elizabeth Lopatto - Jul 14, 2011

Internet searches are making information easy to forget, as more people rely on their computers as a type of “external memory,” a study of Harvard University students found.

About 60 Harvard students were asked to type 40 pieces of trivia, such as “An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain,” into computers, and were told either the information would be saved or erased. People who believed the data would be saved were less likely to remember, according to the study published online by the journal Science.

The widely available Internet has made it an instant go-to library where facts and figures are easily found, the researchers said.

[FOLLOW-UP:  :):) So far the standout is O'Shaughnessy (toured yesterday)- absolutely gorgeous luscious wines, tiny production, and extremely impressive caves. We also LOVED Nickel & Nickel (toured Saturday) Far Niente's slightly younger cousin. Today we played golf and stopped into Darioush and Silver Oak. Nice wines, but blown out of the water by what we had yesterday and the day before. We are joining wines clubs willy nilly, and look forward to sharing our discoveries:) hugs!
